| Obverse description | Equestrian portrait of John George II facing right, depicted in full armour with a plumed helmet and flowing mantle, mounted on a caparisoned horse shown in a prancing pose. Beneath the horse's hooves appears the Saxon electoral arms — a crowned shield bearing the crossed swords and wheel — flanked by small ornamental devices in the field. The date 1657 appears in the upper left field, and partial abbreviated legend is visible along the periphery. The hammered flan imparts a characteristic irregular outline to the piece. The composition reflects the Vicariat coinage tradition of the Holy Roman Empire, commemorating the elector's role as Imperial Vicar following the death of Emperor Ferdinand III. |
