Reverse description The reverse bears a twelve-line commemorative Latin inscription occupying the entire field, recording the principal dates of Sophia's life and death: her birth on 13 October 1630, her marriage in September 1658, her nomination as British Heiress in 1701, and her sudden yet peaceful death on the evening of 8 June 1714 while walking in the gardens of Herrenhausen. The text is evenly spaced and elegantly lettered in a bold Roman capital style, surrounded by the same toothed border as the obverse. The inscription concludes with a star or asterisk device at the foot of the field.
