Obverse description Central device consisting of a quartered heraldic shield displaying the multiple territorial arms of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, including rampant lions, a horse passant, and chequered quarters, arranged within a decorative cartouche. The surrounding circular legend reads FRIDERIC VLRIC D G DVX BRV ET L in Latin, identifying the ruler Frederick Ulrich by name and title. The lettering is separated by small ornamental stops and runs clockwise along the coin's periphery. The heraldic composition reflects the dynastic claims of the Welf ruling house and is executed in the characteristic bold relief of early seventeenth-century hammered coinage.
