Gaurinath Singha ruled Assam from 1780 to 1795 under near-constant pressure from Burmese incursions that had been destabilizing the Ahom kingdom since mid-century. His reign saw the kingdom increasingly dependent on British East India Company support — a relationship that would ultimately end Ahom sovereignty entirely within a generation of his death. Coinage from his reign is scarce in any denomination; the fractional issues particularly so, likely reflecting disrupted minting activity during periods of Burmese military pressure rather than any administrative decision.
