Frederik III issued this denomination during the years immediately following the 1660 constitutional revolution that abolished the Danish nobility's tax exemptions and transformed the monarchy into a hereditary absolute power. The reformed fiscal machinery that followed — centralizing revenue collection directly under the crown — drove a systematic recoinage program, and small silver fractions like this were a direct product of that reorganization.
Lange 66 is among the scarcer attributions in the Frederik III silver series. Die workmanship at the Copenhagen mint varied considerably across this period.
