Obverse description Allegorical seated female figure of the State of Guanajuato occupies the central field, facing slightly left, holding a cornucopia in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The figure is rendered in low relief with draped robes and rests upon a rocky base. The encircling legend reads ESTADO LIBRE DE GUANAJUATO above and UN OCTAVO below, separated by small rosette stops. The overall design is characteristic of the early republican coinage of the Mexican states.
