Additional information

Tipu Sultan's copper fractional coinage was part of a deliberate administrative overhaul — he reformed the Mysore monetary system entirely after taking the throne, introducing a new calendar, new coin denominations, and new mint names. Patna mint, renamed Patan by Tipu, operated under this reformed system during the decade before the Third Anglo-Mysore War forced significant disruptions to normal administration. At 1.4 grams, this eighth-paisa represents the smallest practical unit of that reformed structure.
