Obverse description Shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis, surmounted by a royal crown, flanked by the Roman numerals V (left) and III (right) indicating the denomination of 1/8 écu. The crowned arms are centered in the field, with the circular Latin legend running along the outer border. The design is characteristic of the milled coinage reform introduced under Louis XIII by engraver Jean Warin.

Reverse description An ornate cross composed of four lily-form terminals, each arm adorned with foliate scrollwork terminating in stylized leaves, with a central quadrilobe quatrefoil rosette at the intersection. The date appears to the left within the circular Latin legend, with small decorative stops and privy marks punctuating the inscription. The overall design is elegant and typical of the refined milled coinage produced at the French royal mints under Jean Warin's direction.
