Obverse description Crowned shield of France (three fleurs-de-lis) flanked by the Roman numerals V and III, denoting the value of one-eighth ecu. The mint workshop differencing mark appears at the base of the shield. The royal title legend in Latin encircles the central device, with the date appearing at the end of the inscription.

Reverse description A bold cross fleury (fleurdelisée) with elaborate foliate terminals at each arm, enclosing a central quatrefoil rosette in the heart of the cross. The four arms of the cross divide the field into quadrants. The pious Latin benediction legend runs continuously around the periphery of the coin within a beaded inner border, characteristic of royal French hammered coinage of the early seventeenth century.
