| Obverse description | Central shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis in semé arrangement, surmounted by an elaborate royal crown. The fractional value VIII (representing one-eighth) is displayed split across the flanks of the shield, with 'V' to the left and 'III' to the right. The circular legend reads CAROLVS X D G FRANC REX, identifying Charles X as King of France by the grace of God. A mint letter 'D' (Lyon) appears at the bottom of the field. The design is characteristic of the hammered coinage of the French Catholic League period. |
