Obverse description Central field bears the crowned royal arms of France, displaying three fleurs-de-lis on a semé field within a pointed shield surmounted by a royal crown. To the left of the shield, the denomination mark VIII is visible, indicating the eighth part of the écu. The surrounding legend in Latin runs along the inner border of the coin.

Obverse lettering SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTUM
Reverse description Central field features an ornate fleurdelisée cross with elaborate foliate terminals and a central decorative rosette at the intersection, executed in the hammered style characteristic of the period. The date appears in the upper field flanking the top arm of the cross. The circumferential legend identifying the king as Louis XIV, by the grace of God King of France and Navarre, is separated by pellets and runs continuously around the outer border within a beaded inner circle.
