Obverse description Draped bust of King Charles IV facing right, struck in low relief with considerable wear consistent with extended circulation. The portrait is centered in the field with the date 1793 inscribed along the lower periphery. The surrounding legend reads CAROLUS IIII DEI GRATIA, identifying the monarch by name and divine right. The coin bears a Puerto Rican countermark — a fleur-de-lys punch — applied to validate the piece for local circulation. The border is formed by a continuous row of beads.
