Obverse description Crowned and armored bust of King Johan III facing right, rendered in bold relief in the late Renaissance hammered style. The king wears an ornate crown and elaborate plate armor with detailed chasing visible at the shoulder and gorget. Long flowing hair or a beard falls beneath the crown, framing the profile. The abbreviated legend is divided on either side of the effigy in the field, with REX to the left and IOHA to the right, each flanked by pellet stops.

Reverse description The Vasa coat of arms, consisting of a crowned shield bearing the dynastic Vasa sheaf, is centrally placed within a beaded inner circle, with the last two digits of the date flanking the shield. A crown appears above the arms, partially overlapping the inner circle. The encircling Latin legend runs outside the beaded border and names the issuing mint, consistent with the Stockholm coinage of Johan III.
