The Noble series, introduced by the Isle of Man in 1983, was among the first bullion coinage programs to compete directly with the Krugerrand and Maple Leaf. Pobjoy Mint — which held the Isle of Man contract for decades — struck these in fractional denominations far smaller than most sovereign mints would bother with, deliberately targeting the collector-investor crossover market. The 1/64 Noble sits at the extreme low end of that philosophy.
By 2022 production had transferred to Downies/Tobar, reflecting the broader consolidation in private mint contracts serving the island's unusually prolific numismatic program.
