Obverse description Central field features the crowned rampant lion of Holland grasping a bundle of arrows, superimposed upon a spoked wheel — the traditional arms of Dordrecht — all rendered in the boldly modelled, somewhat crude style characteristic of hammered late sixteenth-century Dutch coinage. The circumferential Latin legend reads MONETA BELGICA HOL with the date 1595 interspersed, separated by a rosette mint mark denoting the Dordrecht mint. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border, itself surrounded by the peripheral legend that follows the irregular flan edge.
