Obverse description Central field displays the Mughal imperial legend in Nastaliq Arabic script, issued in the name of Emperor Shah Alam II. A prominent inverted numeral '5' is incorporated into the design to denote the fractional value of one-fifth rupee. The bold, flowing characters fill the compact flan typical of hammered fractional coinage. The script is arranged in multiple lines across the field with no border ornament. The overall style reflects the debased Mughal calligraphic tradition as adapted by the Bombay Presidency mint.
