Spain's "Joyas de la Aviación Española" series commemorates aircraft with particular significance to Spanish aviation history, and the Bücker Bü 131 Jungmann earns its place honestly. The German-designed biplane trainer was license-built in Spain by CASA from the late 1930s onward and remained in service with the Ejército del Aire well into the 1960s — longer than almost any other nation operated the type.
The 1.5 Euro denomination, used across several Spanish collector series, has no circulation function; these are struck specifically for the collector market under Spanish law permitting commemorative issues outside standard denomination structures.
