Reverse description The crowned quartered shield of Philip II of Spain dominates the central field, bearing the arms of Castile, León, Aragon, Sicily, Granada, Austria, Burgundy, Brabant, Flanders, and Tyrol, with the escutcheon of Portugal at the centre. The royal crown surmounts the shield. A circular Latin legend in bold relief surrounds the composition, invoking divine protection. The overall design is typical of the Burgundian-Habsburg tradition of the Southern Netherlands coinage of the late sixteenth century.
