Obverse description Crowned quartered royal coat of arms of Philip II of Spain displayed prominently in the field, incorporating the castles of Castile, lions of León, chains of Navarre, and diagonal bars of Aragon, supported by decorative foliate ornaments on either side. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown and flanked by the pillars of Hercules devices. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire composition. A countermark depicting a lion passant within a pearled oval (type A13.2) has been applied to the coin's surface, indicating official revaluation by the County of Holland authorities.
