| Obverse description | Facing crab depicted in high relief, seen directly from above, filling the entire field. The carapace is rendered with a broad, squarish form, with two prominent raised claws extending forward at the upper register and three pairs of walking legs splayed symmetrically to either side. The surface of the carapace shows faint granular texture characteristic of early Archaic die-cutting. No legend or inscription is present; the type serves as the civic badge of Kos. |
