| Obverse description | The denomination numeral '48' is boldly rendered in large Roman characters at the centre of the field, enclosed within a raised rope or cable inner circle. The circular legend CEYLON GOVERNMENT, separated by a floral rosette stop, runs along the annular band between the inner circle and the outer border. The entire design is contained within a raised rim bordered by a continuous ring of raised circular pellets, lending the piece a formal, engraved character consistent with a proof striking. |
