Obverse description The tughra of Sultan Mahmud II (second type) rendered in flowing Ottoman calligraphy occupies the central field, enclosed within a decorative floral border composed of stylized blossoms. Two small stars flank the tughra within the inner circle. The overall design follows the traditional Ottoman hammered gold coin format, with the tughra serving as the principal device in lieu of a portrait effigy.
