Obverse description Right-facing bust effigy of Archbishop Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg within a beaded inner circle, the date rendered in Roman numerals divided by the portrait at either side. A Latin legend commencing at 12 o'clock runs around the periphery. The portrait is rendered in the late Gothic hammered style characteristic of early sixteenth-century Salzburg coinage.

Reverse description Two heraldic shields displayed side by side beneath a Cardinal's ecclesiastical hat: the dexter shield bearing the arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, the sinister shield displaying the personal arms of Archbishop Matthäus Lang. The date appears in the lower field below the shields, all contained within a beaded inner circle. A Latin legend commencing at 12 o'clock, abbreviating the formula Matheus Cardinalis Episcopus Salisburgensis, surrounds the design, with the outer legend invoking Saint Rupert, patron of Salzburg.
