Obverse description Central device depicts the crowned Virgin Mary (Madonna) with the Christ Child, both bearing haloes, the Child holding a cruciger globe. The Madonna and Child appear in high relief above the archbishop's quartered coat of arms. A continuous Latin legend encircles the design, commencing at 12 o'clock position, identifying the issuing archbishop.

Reverse description Saint Rupert (Rudbertus), patron saint of Salzburg, is depicted in full episcopal vestments, seated in a frontal position. He leans upon the coat of arms of the city of Salzburg at his left side, while holding his characteristic attribute—a barrel of salt—in his right hand and his pastoral crosier in his left hand. The year of issue appears in the upper left field, with a continuous Latin legend encircling the composition identifying the saint and his see.
