The encircling Latin legend, commencing at 12 o'clock, reads IO ERNEST D G ARCHIEP SAL S A L, abbreviating the full title Johann Ernst Dei Gratia Archiepiscopus Salisburgensis Sedis Apostolicae Legatus. The composition reflects the strong Marian devotion characteristic of Counter-Reformation Salzburg ecclesiastical coinage. |
