| Reverse description | Central field bears the elaborate quartered heraldic shield of the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, displaying multiple dynastic and territorial quarterings including the Brunswick lion, the Wolfenbüttel arms, and further heraldic divisions, all contained within an oval cartouche. The shield is rendered in fine engraved detail characteristic of the period. A beaded inner circle frames the shield, surrounded by the Latin motto legend HONESTVM PRO PATRIA, meaning 'What is honourable for the fatherland,' separated by rosette or floral stops. The overall die work reflects the accomplished Germanic hammer-struck technique of the late sixteenth century. |
