Obverse description Draped bust of Sophia, Electress of Hanover, facing right, her hair dressed in loose curls beneath a veil or widow's cap, rendered in fine baroque relief. The effigy is portrait-style, conveying advanced age with naturalistic detail in the facial features and drapery. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading clockwise from the upper right, divided by a small star at the top of the field. The inner field is unadorned, allowing the portrait to dominate the design.
