Obverse description Armored bust of Duke Frederick III facing right, depicted in three-quarter profile within a beaded inner circle. The effigy shows the duke wearing elaborately engraved plate armor with a lace or ruff collar visible at the neck. The portrait is rendered in the vigorous late Renaissance style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German hammered coinage. The Latin legend encircles the bust along the outer border, interrupted at the top by the beginning of the duke's title.
