Obverse description Half-length armoured bust of Archduke Ferdinand II facing right, depicted in elaborate plate armour, contained within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Latin identifies the subject in relation to his betrothal, reading MARIAE ANNAE DVC BAV FERDINANDI AVS ARCH SPONSAE SERENISS. The portrait is rendered in the mannered style characteristic of late-sixteenth-century Habsburg commemorative coinage.
