Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Archduke Ferdinand Karl of Habsburg, Duke of Tyrol, facing right, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail. The effigy breaks the inner circle at the top of the head, a characteristic convention of the period. The date 1654, presented in a dotted format (.1.6.5.4.), appears in the field before the bust. The peripheral legend, commencing at 12 o'clock, reads FERDINAND CAROL D G ARCHIDVX AVST, with the denomination fraction (1/4) incorporated into the inscription.
