Obverse description Central oval shield bearing the arms of Bremen (a key), surmounted by an ornate crown and supported by two lions rampant on either side, all within a beaded inner border. The date 1651 appears in the lower exergue, flanked by the mintmaster's initials T.I., while a small orb bearing the fraction 1/4 is positioned at the top of the field above the crown. The encircling legend reads * MONE NOVA ARG REIPUB BREMENSIS 1651 T.I., separated from the design by a continuous beaded border.
