| Obverse description | At center, the Triratna (Triple Gem) symbol is enclosed within a square frame bearing Tibetan inscriptions denoting the reign era of Xuantong (Year 1) and the denomination (1/4 Sho). The square is in turn surrounded by the Buddhist Eight Auspicious Symbols (Ashtamangala): a white parasol, a conch shell, a treasure vase, a victory banner, a dharma wheel, a pair of golden fish, an endless knot, and a lotus flower, arranged symmetrically around the central device. The overall composition is rendered in a formal, devotional style characteristic of early twentieth-century Tibetan coinage. |
