Obverse description Facing eagle with wings displayed, perched atop a nopal cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, with a serpent held in its beak; the national emblem of the Mexican Republic rendered in low relief. An oak branch and a laurel branch are arranged in a crossed spray beneath the cactus, forming a decorative frame around the lower field. The circular legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA runs along the upper periphery, separated from the device by a raised inner border.
