| Obverse description | The obverse features the Mexican federal eagle displayed in the centre of the field, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, with a serpent clutched in its beak and wings spread upward. A sprig of laurel or oak appears to the lower left of the eagle. The surrounding legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA is inscribed in raised Latin characters along the upper periphery, contained within a toothed or beaded border that encircles the entire design. |
