Additional information

Chihuahua's copper quartos were struck during one of the most turbulent periods in Mexican state history — the Reform War bled into the French Intervention, and the state changed hands between Liberal and Conservative factions repeatedly across these years. Local copper coinage filled the void left by disrupted federal supply, functioning as emergency fractional currency when silver virtually disappeared from everyday transactions in the north.

KM#344 encompasses several die varieties across the emission period, some attributable to different local engravers working under inconsistent supervision.
