Additional information

Enrique IV's final years were defined by the War of Castilian Succession, a dynastic crisis so destabilizing that rival factions simultaneously minted coinage in competing claimants' names. The Segovia mint, fed by Castile's silver supply from the Guadalcanal region, remained under royalist control through this period, making issues attributable to the legitimate crown relatively traceable — though the political chaos left documentary mint records badly fragmented.

AB#732 is among the smallest denominations of the reign, and surviving specimens frequently show misaligned dies, a consequence of hasty production during years when the mint's operations were repeatedly disrupted by factional pressures on the city.
