Obverse description Central field features a stylized castle (castillo) with three towers, rendered in relief, flanked on the left by the Santiago mintmark 'S' and the denomination '1/4' to the right. The date appears in the lower portion of the field below the castle. The design is contained within a plain inner border surrounded by a beaded (milled) outer rim. The overall style is characteristic of the simplified colonial macuquina-influenced coinage produced at the Santiago Mint under the reign of Carlos IV.
