Obverse description Central raised pellet enclosed within multiple concentric raised circles, the design rendered in a bold, geometric style characteristic of Norwegian medieval bracteate coinage. The concentric ring motif radiates outward from the central boss, filling the entire field. No legend or inscription present. The flan is irregular in outline with a slightly lobate edge, typical of hand-cut hammered silver of this period.

Additional information

Struck under the Norwegian kings of the late 12th century, this fractional issue belongs to a period of intense civil conflict — the so-called "civil war era" that fractured Norway for nearly a century between rival dynastic factions. Coinage from this stretch is notoriously difficult to attribute with precision, and Skaare's classification itself groups pieces across a reign span of several decades.

At this weight and denomination, these were among the smallest silver coins produced in medieval Scandinavia.
