Tipu Sultan's coinage reform of 1787 scrapped the entire Mysorean numismatic system inherited from his father Hyder Ali and introduced a new solar calendar, new denominations, and new mint signatures — a deliberate break with Mughal-derived conventions that had governed southern Indian coinage for generations. The Bengalur mint, one of several Tipu activated during this reorganization, strikes this fraction with the mintname rendered in a distinctly compressed form that distinguishes KM#31.2 from the closely related .1 variety.
