Obverse description Central device features the quartered royal arms of England and France within a cusped quatrefoil frame, the shield displaying the fleurs-de-lis of France in the first and fourth quarters and the three passant guardant lions of England in the second and third quarters. Small trefoil ornaments adorn the cusps of the quatrefoil, all set within a plain inner circle and a beaded inner border. The circumferential legend in Gothic uncial lettering reads + EDWARD : DEI : GRA : REX : AnGL, separated by pellet stops, running clockwise between two beaded borders along the outer margin of the flan.
