Additional information

Jyoti Prakash Malla ruled Kathmandu for only a few years in the mid-18th century, a period when the three rival Newar kingdoms of the Kathmandu Valley — Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur — were locked in chronic political competition that would ultimately leave all three vulnerable. Within two decades of this coin's issue, Prithvi Narayan Shah's Gorkha forces had conquered the entire valley, ending Newar political authority permanently in 1769.
