Obverse description Central field dominated by an ornate interlaced royal cypher 'CA' (for Carl August, Prince of Nassau-Weilburg), rendered in elaborate calligraphic script and surmounted by a princely crown. The initials 'F' and 'N' (Fürst Nassau) appear to the left and right of the cypher respectively, flanking the monogram in the field. The overall design is executed in a restrained Baroque style typical of small German states of the mid-eighteenth century.

Additional information

Nassau-Weilburg was a minor Protestant principality in the fragmented Rhenish territories, and Charles August ruled it from 1737 until his death in 1753 — making 1752 effectively a last-year issue. The quarter kreuzer was the smallest denomination in regular circulation, used for the most marginal daily transactions in markets and tollgates. Very few small copper pieces from these micro-states survived in any condition; they circulated hard and were eventually demonetized when Nassau territories began consolidating under Napoleonic reorganization after 1806.
