Obverse description Draped bust of Archbishop Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg facing left, wearing a flat barrette cap, with the date MDXXII divided across the field to the left and right of the bust. The circular Latin legend runs along the coin's periphery within a beaded border, identifying the sitter as Cardinal Archbishop of Salzburg. The portrait is rendered in the vigorous Renaissance style characteristic of early sixteenth-century South German hammered coinage.
