Obverse description Four-line Latin inscription LVG / DVNVM / BATAVO / RVM arranged across the field, presenting the Latin name of Leiden (Lugdunum Batavorum), enclosed within a wreath of laurel or olive branches tied at top and bottom. The wreath is in turn surrounded by a beaded border forming a circular frame on the square klippe flan. A small rosette or star ornament appears at the apex of the wreath. The overall composition is boldly struck in high relief, characteristic of a piedfort issue.
