Obverse description Central field features a crowned heraldic shield bearing the rampant lion of Gelderland, with the date divided as '17' to the left and '59' to the right of the shield. The crown above the shield is richly detailed with arches and ornamentation in high relief. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, separated from the coin's edge by a continuous beaded border. The overall design is characteristic of the provincial coinage of the Dutch Republic, executed in a precise milled style.
