Obverse lettering + F DVX LOTOR
(Translation: Frederick, Duke of Lorraine.)
Reverse description Central device depicts the banner of Lorraine, charged with three alerions, placed side-by-side with a downward-pointing sword, the two charges rendered in the flat, unmodelled manner characteristic of hammered medieval coinage. The composition fills the roughly circular flan and is enclosed by a circular legend. The pairing of the ducal banner with the sword reinforces the dynastic and military symbolism of the issue.
