Obverse description Crude, facing bust of Ferdinand II wearing an elaborate crown, rendered in a rudimentary hammered style characteristic of late medieval Catalan coinage. The royal effigy is depicted in a roughly frontal or three-quarter pose with simplified facial features and linear drapery folds on the mantle. The mintmark letter B appears prominently to the right of the bust, denoting the Barcelona mint. The overall relief is low and the flan is irregular, as typical of hammered issues of this period.
