Obverse description Crowned quartered shield of Austria-Burgundy displayed at center of field, bearing the combined arms of the Habsburg and Burgundian dynasties. The shield is surmounted by an imperial crown with visible arches and finial. The heraldic device is rendered in low relief with bold, if somewhat crude, hammered workmanship typical of the period. A circular beaded inner border frames the composition, with the Latin legend disposed around the periphery. The overall design reflects the imperial pretensions of Charles V as Holy Roman Emperor and ruler of the Low Countries.
