Obverse description A tournament helmet rendered in profile occupies the upper field, flanked on either side by small shields each bearing a rampant lion, the two shields facing one another. A trefoil (clover leaf) appears both beneath and between the shields, serving as an ornamental spacer. The overall composition is characteristic of late medieval Low Countries heraldic coinage, with the devices presented in a compact arrangement within the coin's irregular flan. A circumferential legend in Latin uncial lettering borders the design.
