Obverse description A tournament helmet rendered in profile occupies the upper field, flanked on either side by small shields each bearing a rampant lion, the two shields facing one another. A trefoil (clover leaf) appears both beneath and between the shields, serving as an ornamental spacer. The overall composition is characteristic of late medieval Low Countries heraldic coinage, with the devices presented in a compact arrangement within the coin's irregular flan. A circumferential legend in Latin uncial lettering borders the design.

Reverse description A short cross pattée is centrally placed within an inner beaded circle, its splayed terminals extending nearly to the border. In each of the four angles formed by the cross arms, an initial letter representing one of the principal cities of Guelders is positioned in the field. A circumferential legend in Latin uncial script surrounds the beaded circle, identifying the coin as new money struck at Arnhem. The design is typical of mid-fifteenth-century Netherlandish quarter-groat coinage in its restrained, symmetrical layout.
