Albert of Bavaria ruled Holland as count from 1358 until his death in 1404, a reign marked by persistent conflict with the Hooks and Cods — the factional civil war that fractured Holland's nobility for much of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. This small billon piece was struck in the middle of that prolonged instability, when maintaining a functioning mint was itself a political act. The vdCh 6#8.16 reference places it firmly within Chalon's classification of Albert's fractional coinage, a series produced in limited volume and now genuinely scarce in any condition.
